With the participation of 250 kindergartens and primary schools, and with 7,000 book donations, bookwave 2014 took place at the Benaki Museum on November 21. The event was organized by Library4all and the Benaki Museum, with the kind support of the Bodossaki Foundation and the approval of the Ministry of Education. Our sponsor was the newspaper “Kathimerini”, and the advertising campaign was created voluntarily by TRIBE/Grey. ΙΚΕΑ of the Fourlis Group assisted in delivering the books.
The bookwave unitive mobilized private schools, companies, individuals and publishers to offer a great amount of children’s books. Odeon and other media spread our message “We fill schools with books”. People also had the chance to support bookwave 2014 purchasing books from the Cosmote Books online bookstore, Ianos, Papasotiriou, and Public.
During the all-day event, Library4all hosted free inspiring workshops for the 50 participating teachers in collaboration with the Director of Cultural Affairs of the Second Regional Office of Education of Athens and the Educational Program Department of the Benaki Museum.
- Eirini Vikotopoulou, sociologist and administrator of www.bookbook.gr spoke about how a school library should be organized
- Writer-illustrator Sofia Zarabouka presented the process of creating a 16-page poster book in a classroom.
- The Educational Program Department of the Benaki Museum prepared an innovative workshop regarding the art of ex libris.
